RESOURCES

Academies were centers of research and knowledge production, and gathering places for erudite thinkers in all fields of inquiry. Some academies have been kept alive to the present day (such as the Accademia dei Lincei and the Accademia dei Georgofili in Italy, the Académie des Sciences in France, or the Royal Society in Great Britain), while others are the subject of current, historical research (such as David Freedberg's book on the early history of the Accademia dei Lincei, The Eye of the Lynx).
